Aboubacar Sidiki Paré, commonly known as Vieux Paré - because he was named after his grandfather -, is
a singer and musician who started his career in the 1990s. Born in the Samo ethnical group, he was not born into a musical family, and he
learned to play various instruments by himself. He was part of several local and regional bands, probably mostly on an ad hoc basis,
but in 1993, he started a solo career and he recorded a first cassette in that same year, carrying the title
« Moussow a ni bara ». His second album « Baroni »
met considerable success in Mali and establised his name as a musician. For the title song, a video clip was recorded which can still be found
on YouTube.
Vieux Paré released two more albums, « A na Kaw yena » in 2001, and
« A mana Minč » in 2005. The political and religious upheavals in Mali in the following years
did nothing good for artists in Mali, and probably Vieux Paré was no exception to this. Although he didn't produce new songs anymore, he
is still doing studio work, and is active in helping young artists in realising their musical projects.
His son Mohamed Vieux Paré is also active in music and has thusfar released about four songs that are available on international
streaming and download platforms.
